Deep Heel CupThe very deep molding in the heel area supports the foot tissue and holds the heel bone firmly in its natural position. This provides the foot with nearly as much support when it is in a sandal as when it is in a closed shoe.
Heel MouldActivates the calf muscles, stabilises the back of the foot and improves gait and coordination.
Interior And Exterior Longitudinal Arch SupportsThe arch supports that run alongside the sides of the footbed surround the tarsal bones inside and out. This gives the foot the stability it needs when it takes a step.
Transverse Arch SupportThe support that runs through the middle of the footbed stabilizes the metatarsal bone. In this way, the transverse arch support helps ensure that the foot has a naturally straight and solid stance.
Toe GripThere are raised indentations at the front of the footbed near the toes. Thanks to the toe grip the toes remain loose and spread out in their natural position. The indentations also support the natural rolling motion of the toes.
Footbed EdgeThe footbed is drawn up especially high at the front. As a result, the high footbed edge protects the toes during the rolling motion of the foot.
More features:Oiled leather can be recognized by its untreated surface. BIRKENSTOCK purposely does not treat surface grains and other characteristic features. BIRKENSTOCK uses sturdy leather with a thickness of 2.8 to 3.2 millimeters as upper material.
Insole: Real LeatherThe flexible leather lining, which is gentle on the skin, nestles up softly against your foot and adjusts to its contour. The open-pored and thus very breathable surface makes for a comfortable foot climate, even during more strenuous physical activity.
Footbed material: CorkCork is a sustainable material extracted from the bark layer of the cork oak. This natural product is insulating and offers very good cushioning.
Outsole: EVAEVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) is a high-quality, very light, elastic material with extremely good cushioning. As a result, it smooths out slight irregularities in the floor and ensures that every step is softly cushioned.

Purchased Birkenstocks with blue lettering which normally means they have a softer sole when they arrived they did not have blue lettering they had black leather The ones pictured online had blue lettering sending them back

I wear a 10 1/2D - a 44, the recommended size, was too big. Not impressed with the quality and appearance of the leather - it was marred, not nicely finished. Returned for credit.

I have owned a number of pairs of Birkenstock sandals. However, I was surprised that these did not have the traditional cork footbed I am accustomed to having with these sandals. The photo online looked like cork. The fit and finish were fine, and the footbed has a cork look but is not cork. Will have to see how they wear.

So this is my first pair of Birkenstocks, and they are very comfortable, they have great support for your feet, they look sturdy, so I'm happy to get a size that finally fits and some trials. The problem is the sizing. Normally in EU sizing I take a 43 (size 9), but purchasing a 43 online (at another store) when they arrived, they were a full 1.5" longer than a comparable Keen sandal at the same size. And of course, they weren't even close to fitting. I purchased a size 41 at LL Bean (although in theory these would be far too small) and and they were still too big. They're about 2/3 inch too large. I will be returning them. I settled on a size 39 direct from the manufacturer (LL Bean does not sell men's sizes this small), this is the equivalent of a size 6 1/2, and they finally fit. My advice is to go to a store and try them out. They are not sized like any other sandal or shoe, Other people's experience may vary depending on foot shape. One last thought, for this style of shoe, these are unisex, so in hindsight, I could have picked the women's size of 39.
